TERMS & CONDITIONS
The following is a summary of the Rental Conditions. Please note that all prices are quoted in South African Rand. Rates and / or conditions quoted in our brochures are subject to change without notice.
RENTAL DURATION
Minimum rental is 5 days and 10 days for collection / return in Botswana / Zimbabwe. When calculating the number of days, the day of collection is counted as day one of the rental regardless of collection time. The day of return is counted as the final day.
DEPOT HOURS FOR PICK-UP & DROP-OFF
Maui Camper Hire has branches in Windhoek, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Durban, Maun, Harare and Victoria Falls. Office hours are from Monday to Friday from 08h00 to 16h30. Collections and returns on weekends and public holidays by arrangement only. Sunday collections and returns are subject to a surcharge of R300.
TRANSFER
Airport and local hotel transfers for all branches = R100 per transfer. Windhoek is R200 per transfer.
Excess Reduction Options
Maui Camper Hire offers 4 very competitive excess reduction options for peace of mind during your holiday.
No Cover
In the event of any damage to either a Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property, the hirer will be liable for the first R75 000. The hirer will also be fully liable for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. The excess of R75 000 can be paid by cash, traveller’s cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken and the amount will have to be authorised by the bank ). This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property. Hirer is also responsible for all tyre damage. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.
To reduce this excess, Maui Camper Hire offers the following options:
Standard Cover
At R110 per day this cover will reduce this excess for any damage to either the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property to R30 000. The excess of R30 000 can be paid by cash, traveller’s cheques or credit card (a manual imprint of the credit card will be taken). This is fully refundable on return of the vehicle to the agreed location, on the agreed date, with no damage incurred to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property. Note: hirer is responsible for all tyre damage
Super Cover
Super Cover at R135 per day will reduce this excess for any damage to either the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property to R15 000. The option of Super Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio. Further details can be found on the Welcome Letter.
Exclusive Cover
Exclusive Cover at R220 per day for all vehicles will reduce the excess for any damage to either the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property to Zero. The option of Exclusive Cover will also waive the excess for replacement or repair of windscreen and / or radio as well as covering all tyre damages. EXCLUSIONS
The hirer will be fully liable for any damage to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property if:
- The terms of the rental contract are breached.
- Damage to the vehicle is caused by careless, willful or reckless driving.
- Damage to the vehicle is caused due to incorrect use of clutch, handbrake etc.
- Driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Driving on restricted roads / areas.
- Water submersion or salt-water damage is caused.
In case of any damage to the Maui Camper Hire vehicle or third party vehicle / property a second excess will be collected to cover the excess for any subsequent damage.
INFRINGEMENTS
Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to charge the hirer for any speeding or parking fines, associated administration costs and / or accidents including third party vehicle / property damage not reported on the return of the vehicle.
ACCIDENTS
- If the rental vehicle is involved in an accident and is not driveable, a replacement vehicle, if available, may be collected from the closest branch.
- If the hirer requires a replacement vehicle to be delivered, then these charges will be for the hirer’s account. None of the excess reduction options cover this eventuality.
- The hirer is responsible for the recovery of the damaged vehicle to the original rental depot.
- If the hirer is unable or unwilling to take a replacement vehicle, no refunds for early termination of the contract will apply.
- No refund of rental days lost will be considered during the period in which a replacement vehicle is being organised.
- Should there be no replacement vehicle available, no refund for lost days will be considered.
- Should the hirer continue with a replacement vehicle then a new rental contract and insurance conditions will apply.
Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to apply the above conditions as they deem fit.
EXCHANGE RATE / CURRENCY VARIATIONS
All credit card transactions are conducted in South African Rand. Due to exchange rate fluctuations there could be some variance in the amount refunded compared to the amount initially charged. Maui Camper Hire accepts no liability for any variances up or down.
CREDIT CARDS
If a credit card is presented as payment, the credit card holder will be jointly and severally liable as a customer.
LICENCE
A valid non-endorsed driver's licence is required - international licence is preferred.
MINIMUM AGE
Drivers must be 21 years or older.
MULTIPLE RENTALS
Multiple rentals can be combined to qualify the renter for our long-term rate. Motorhome and car rentals in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa can be combined to qualify if travel is within a 3-month period e.g. one 14-day rental plus one 7-day rental qualifies for the 21-day rate.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS
Vehicles may be taken into South Africa's neighboring states but are not allowed into Angola or Malawi. All insurance cover is void if vehicles enter prohibited areas.
Maui Camper Hire reserves the right, at its sole discretion, to restrict vehicle movements in certain areas due to adverse road or weather conditions, political situations or any other reason.
REPAIRS
Repairs of up to R1 000 may be effected without authorization and will be reimbursed upon presentation of receipts. When over R1 000 we need to be contacted for authorisation.
CHANGE OF VEHICLE
Maui Camper Hire reserves the right to substitute a comparable or superior vehicle should the requested vehicle not be available due to unforeseen circumstances. This shall not constitute a breach of contract and does not entitle the hirer to any refund.
CANCELLATION FEES

TAXES
14% VAT is included in gross rates. Above prices are subject to change in accordance with changes in government taxes.
PETS
No pets are permitted in our vehicles.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTIONS
Spirit 2
This nippy Toyota Hi-Ace 2.2 L is a spirited little motorhome. The large rear-lift-open door offers extended living space when seated in the rear dining / bed area. It comes complete with a gas stove and cold water pumped directly to the sink. The refrigerator runs off the second 12v battery and without flicking a switch, can run off 220v when plugged in at camping sites. This 2-berth motorhome comes equipped with all cooking utensils, cutlery, crockery and linen.
Spirit 3
Based on a Mercedes chassis, this dependable motorhome sleeps three in absolute comfort. A built-in toilet and shower is positioned close to the entrance door, leaving plenty of space for the rear double bed, gas stove, refrigerator and microwave. Hot / cold water is supplied directly to the shower and kitchen. The single bed positioned behind the driver’s cabin provides ample space to sleep a child. The Spirit 3 is incredibly easy to drive and offers all the comforts normally associated with the larger vehicles in the Maui range.
Spirit 5
Based on a Mercedes chassis, this 5-berth vehicle features two spacious double beds and one single bed. The hot water is supplied via gas or 220 Volt. A full range of linen is provided. Extensive storage space is provided in ceiling-mounted cupboards at the rear of the vehicle. The wardrobe, complete with hangers, is situated next to the toilet and shower compartment. When connected to 220v, the microwave is a luxury for the busy traveller. A gas stove, compressor driven refrigerator and all cooking utensils are found in the compact kitchen unit.
Spirit 5 Lux
Top of the Maui range is the luxurious Spirit 5 Lux based on a powerful 2,2 L turbo diesel Mercedes Benz Sprinter. This vehicle comes complete with bedding, crockery, cutlery and stainless steel cooking pans. There is an electric kettle, toaster and electric coffee percolator or coffee plunger. An air conditioner if fitted in the rear of the motorhome and offers incredible cooling of the vehicle when plugged into 220 Volt mains power at the campsite. The large rear sleeping area converts into a lounge / dining area during the day. Windows on all sides make for excellent game viewing. Unrestricted walking access from the driver’s cabin to the rear living area gives you instant contact with your travelling companions. This is truly a great motorhome experience in Africa.
