Particularities concerning Car Rental, for rental cars in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban and Port Elizabeth
In case you are planning your vacation at the moment, you should note that you should always have your european and international driver's licence at hand.

If the client is under the age of 21 years, it is accepted that this accompanied with additional costs in Cape Town, South Africa. When booking a rental car, the driver should have been in possesion of a valid driver's licence for at least two years. If there is not sufficient time to order a international driver's licence for South Africa, your national driver's licence will be sufficient. Hoewever, this needs to be translated into English at the Embassy. The Embassies in Cape Town or Johannesburg will normally be able to help you between 9h00 and 12h00. We however recommend that you apply for a South African driver's licence at the local authorities. At some offices, a translation of your driver's licence is required. In addition to this, you will have to complete an eye-test after which there is a waiting period of approximately three months before the driver's licence is available.

If you decide to become member of the "AA", you will experience no problems on the roads of South Africa. Simply call the following numbers : 0800 033 007 or 011 799 1644. For some neighbouring countries of South Africa, you will require a VISA. An emplyee of AA will gladly explain how this can be obtained.

Kenya – If you desire to travel into Kenya, you will require a temporary driver's licence. Local Car Rental Services will be more than willing to help in this regard. Rental cars of local agencies are relatively expensive. Due to the poor quality of the roads in Kenya, we recommend that you rent a 4X4 for your travels.
Marocco - When booking a rental car, a national and internation driver's licence is required!
Mauritius – The public infrastructure is excellent and very accessible. You basically do not need a rental car on this small island. There are busses that leave most hotels every thirty minutes. Taxis are also very affordable.
Tunisia - When booking a rental car, a national and international driver's licence is required!
Egypt - When booking a rental car, a national and international driver's licence is required!
Algeria - When booking a rental car, a national and international driver's licence is required!
