Rates
Our rates in South Africa include the choice of unlimited mileage, 200 or 400 km's free per day. Additionally super cover theft and collision waivers, airport surcharge, tourism levy, personal accident insurance and VAT are all included. A once off R25 contract fee is charged additionally to the rental.
Weekend rates are strictly available from Thursday 12h00 to Monday 12h00, must include Saturday and Sunday, minimum 2 days, maximum four. No grace period will be considered for late return of cars and the rate will revert to the daily rate. Weekend rates are available with standard waivers only.
Due to the discounted nature of our online rates, redemption of voyager miles is not applicable.
Rates are not commissionable.
Rates and conditions are subject to change without prior notice and all vehicles are rented subject to the detailed terms and conditions in the Rental Agreement.

Payment
Payment is by embossed credit card (digits raised) only, we accept all major credit cards but regrettably we cannot accept debit cards, cheques or cash.
The card holder must be the renter and the credit card is not transferable.
How payment works: Upon collection of the vehicle, your credit card will be charged with the rental amount, an additional day's rental and a tank of fuel. Any expenses for extras eg. additional driver charge, will also be billed. On return of the vehicle and when your final invoice has been calculated, any monies due back to you will be refunded within four working days. Any amounts due to Tempest will be charged to your credit card.
Additionally, an authorisation hold will be placed on your card for the applicable excess amount, this hold will be released within 4 working days once the car has been returned, providing there is no accident or theft damage.
Two credit cards are required for rental of Group H, O, E and W vehicles. We require a MINIMUM of R5000.00 per card, deposit is dependent on rental duration and vehicle group.

Drivers
A valid, unendorsed licence must be produced by the hirer or authorised driver.
Minimum age for hirers or authorised drivers is 23 years of age and the drivers licence must have been valid for a minimum of two years.

Additional Drivers
Additional drivers may only be nominated and authorised by the Renter. The additional driver must be in possession of a valid, unendorsed licence.
Rentals may not be extended by additional drivers.
No additional drivers may be added during the rental unless the vehicle is inspected beforehand at a Tempest rental location.
During weekend rentals the official Renter should accompany additional drivers while using the rental vehicle.
The Renter is liable for all risks/charges applicable to usage of vehicle by the nominated additional driver.

Conditions of Rental
There can be no extension of rentals without prior authorisation from Tempest Car Hire. An unauthorised extension negates collision and theft cover.
Rentals are charged per 24 hours. Late return of vehicles will result in being charged for a further day.
Rentals will be charged until such time as the vehicle keys are returned.
All fines and penalties incurred in the duration of the hire are strictly for the liability of the driver. This includes valets for cars that are returned in conditions not accepted as normal. In addition a R150 traffic fine handling fee will be charged.
On termination of the rental, vehicle keys must be returned to an authorised personnel member of Tempest Car Hire. Failure to do so will result in the hirer being fully liable for the value of loss or damage.
In the event of loss of keys, the hirer will be responsible for all resultant costs.
Supplying a replacement vehicle after an accident or theft is entirely at our discretion and we reserve our rights accordingly.

Vehicles
No vehicles may cross any RSA or Namibian border without prior consent from Tempest Car Hire. Cross border fees may apply.
All speedometers are sealed and any forced interference with the speedometers will result in the rate immediately reverting to daily rates and 500 kms per day will be charged.
In the event of a break-down (due to client error or negligence) or accident, the hirer will be responsible for all resultant costs, including towing. Towing due to mechanical failure on the vehicle (where the renter is not responsible for the failure) will be covered by Tempest Car Hire.
All accidents (should the damage be more than R1000) and vehicle thefts are subject to a R400 administration charge. This is over and above the excess amount payable and the once off contract fee payment of R25.
Personal belongings stolen from vehicles are not covered.
Fuel: All rates include maintenance and oil but fuel is not included. Vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel unless delivered to you and the renter is charged for refill on termination of their contract. A R20 service fee is levied should we have to refuel the vehicle. Most of our fleet uses unleaded fuel. Please note that fuel cannot be purchased with a credit card - cash only.

Extras
Contract Fee:-
A once off contract fee is charged additionally to the rental. This covers any expenses we incure in administrating the rental. Additionally to the contract fee in Namibia, a Stamp Duty levy of N$5.00 is charged which is excluded from the rates and applies on all rentals.
Delivery & Collection:-
We can deliver or collect your vehicle. When making your booking, please select the branch closest to where you require your vehicle delivered/collected and furnish the address details when completing your booking. Delivery and collection charges are as follows:-
* < 25 kms : R110.00 during office hours; R220.00 after hours
* > 25 kms : R110.00 during office hours; R220.00 after hours + R4.40 per extra km
Additional Drivers:-
Charges will increase by R110 per rental for each additional driver nominated. In the event of accident damage or theft caused to the vehicle whilst being driven by a driver not specified on the Rental Agreement, the hirer will be responsible for the full value of damage or loss.
Baby seats:-
Baby seats are available on request, please call us on +2711 396 1080. Baby seats are available at R30 per day to a maximum charge of R330 per rental eg. should the rental be longer than 11 days no further charges will be levied for the babyseat. Our babyseats are suitable for toddlers up to 14 kg's.
After Hours Surcharges:-
Please refer to our branch listings for branch opening and closing hours. Any pick up of a vehicle outside of these hours will be subject to an after hours surcharge of R110.
Cross Border Fees:-
No vehicle may cross any RSA, Namibian, Botswana, Mozambique, Lesotho or Swaziland border without prior consent from Tempest Car Hire. A letter of authority must be obtained from the renting branch, this gives permission for the vehicle to cross the border. A cross border fee of R1000 is applicable into Botswana, Mozambique and Namibia. No vehicles are allowed into Zimbabwe, Angola or Malawi.
No vehicles are permitted to terminate in Mozambique, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi or Swaziland, however a one way drop-off fee into Namibia is charged at R1500 when rentals begin in South Africa and end in Namibia (Windhoek only).
For Namibian rentals booked with Tempest (using Imperial in Namibia) the cross border fee of N$400 and one way fee of N$2500 to South Africa will apply.
One Way Fees:-
One way fees are subject to a charge of R800 between regions. The list below provides a guide-line for the various one way fee exceptions:-
